Communication Partner Update: Texas 8/22 Floods DR 793-23

Our hearts go out to all those that have been impacted by the recent Texas Floods.

We started a State Wide Disaster Relief effort DR 793-23 about 5 days ago due to a storm in the Bay of Campeche, residual flooding in the Nueces River, and alarming rain accumulation forecasts from the National Weather Service covering much of Texas.

The purpose of this Disaster Relief effort was to stage personnel & equipment in anticipation of flooding, and to reach out to our government emergency management partners in terms of preparation and planning.

Positioning Shelter Trailers at potential Shelter / Evacuation sites

Since that time the tropical weather threat dissipated, but our weather challenges remained.

There are currently two main operations areas:

South Texas: Three Forks / Three Rivers area

North Texas: Balch Springs & Everman areas

South Texas

The South Texas Red Cross opened and has since closed a shelter in Live Oak.

Damage assessment is now in progress using the ESRI Survey 1-2-3 App.

North Texas

The North Texas RedCross supported an evacuation center in Everman that has now closed. We are continuing to support a shelter in Balch Springs which is still open to the public. (Balch Springs Recreation Center - 4327 Shepard Lane)

As always you can find an open shelter using the Red Cross !Emergency App or https://www.redcross.org/get-help/disaster-relief-and-recovery-services/find-an-open-shelter.html

Please bookmark this link and/or send “GET EMERGENCY” to 90999 to download the app.
