For the last 10 years (Thanks Polunsky…
) , I have organized the Ham radio contingent to watch over the Decker Challenge half-marathon foot-race tomorrow morning Sunday 15 December 2019.

If you just got your ticket and radio, or you wake up early to pee and cant go back to sleep, join us at the Travis County Expo Center tomorrow at 7am.
Ill be there early to setup the Mast/Antenna/NCS, monitoring 147.36(+)131.8Hz, then we will use 146.55 Simplex for the race (preprogram those in for convenience).

Come in through the upper entrance on Decker Lane (where it says Decker Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in green above) that will probably be the only gate open that early
(free beer*)
We deploy around the course and be ready for the 8am start time.
There is a hard cut-off for the race at Noon, so a fun way to spend your morning!
And this year it wont be the usual drizzly and cold (good for us, but the runners do prefer it colder…)
(free beer*)
Its simple and easy, just park somewhere safe off the road and watch the runners go by.
VHF HT’s will work, mobiles in a vehicle are great.
If you see something interesting/rest stop needs something, call into Net Control and we can get it taken care of.
If its a real emergency (blood/guts/gore), call 911 first, then report in on the radio (Dont worry, No one has died in years
)
(free beer*)
I like to get at least a half-dozen for the main intersections, but the more the merrier, I have spots for anyone who wants to come out.
They usually supply a shirt for volunteers, some kind of breakfast (donuts, b-fast tacos, etc), and
*they usually have free craft beer after the race back at the hall.
Email me directly @ Jim@K5KTF.com if you are interested so I can prep the map, or just show up – walk-ins always accepted!
(PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not reply to any reflector/group like the STX ARES “Confirm Email” fiasco… )
