For Goodness Sake... PLEASE take these courses.....

Folks, with love to all of you, PLEASE take the courses, offered for FREE, from FEMA…
Get a Student ID (SID) and take ICS: 100, 200, 700, 800.
This will take you less than 1 hour and will qualify you to take part in any basic classes offered by TDEM. (COML, COMT, AUXC, and the list goes on and on…)
They are FREE. They are simple… They take less than an hour to accomplish.
The knowledge will help you to understand the system that ALL parties need to follow in today’s Emergency Operations Environment…
I am so sick and tired of hearing " I don’t need any of that ICS/NIMS BS. I will be the ‘last line of communication, and when I show up, I will be put in charge of {something}’"
That is no longer the case, and just saying it pisses off many Ham Radio PPL…
Post-9/11- The infrastructure has been hardened and reinforced to the point that HAM RADIO, in and of itself, is NO LONGER the be all and end all for EMCOMM operations.
Face it, my com-padres… Like it or not, Ham Radio is no longer ‘when all else fails’…
If we want to operate as an adjunct organization to assist Served Agencies during a disaster, event, or other call-up, we MUST, as a group, understand and comply with post-911 Governmental Regulations to remain relevant, or face irrelevancy and extinction..
I know I will not make friends with this post. I may receive scorn and derision.
Be that as it may, the situation IS what it IS. Believe me, or DON’T. I am an advocate for HAM folks, while part of the PRO COMM world. Just as Joey Clements is.
We, as HAM’s, need to read the writing on the wall, accept that things are not as they ‘always have been’, and adjust accordingly.
If not, we will be relegated to a useless anachronism. Trust me on this…

With Ham Love, 73…

I’m glad I already got mine done. Had to take them and more when I was at DPS.

Is there an expiration date on these items?
I took them back in 2012.
Probably need to go through them again.

I’ve taken all these courses, it’s required for my job. I loved them. I learned so much!

After the 2017 update, FEMA wants everyone to take them again. So if you have them from 2017 or older, then you need to redo them to be current.

I took them when I was fire chief of a volunteer fire department. Soon had every one of my firefighters certified as well.

While saying I don’t want to brag, I’ll go ahead and brag - I don’t have 300 or 400, but I’ve got the 4 ESSENTIAL ones, plus about 10 more and when I get the time, I’ve got about another 12 or more I want to get done! Good stuff to use - just in case. I’d love to get 300 & 400 done, but those are ‘in-class’ courses, and I really don’t have all the time to get to them - yet!

Phil and I took the 300 and 400 courses with Lytle Police and Fire Departments several years ago. The fact that the students were first responders from different disciplines made the tabletop exercises more realistic as each brought their knowledge and experience to the table. These 2 courses were well worth the time and effort.

I know I took these, but where do I go to find the list of what I’ve completed?

Have you updated them in the STX depot gateway?

I’m not by my computer to check

If you got an ARES BID Badge then yes you have completed

LTB

Everyone should create a www.preparingtexas.org account.

The class(es) that you have taken would have sent to you a certificate. Most of us don’t care how old they are.
You are responsible for uploading your own certificates. Then, you can generate a transcript for your EC to have, should the need arise.
Additionally, you should input the date in the ARES Info Depot and inform your EC of the accomplishment so that they can confirm your class activity by checking the box on the courses and training tab.

Your class activity will be updated on your ARES badge, when a new badge is requested.
