Hello EC’s, DEC’s, ASEC’s and other interested parties,
Mr. Ruben Fuentes, WB5WTF, has accepted the position of Emergency Coordinator (EC) for Washington County in District 5 of the South Texas Section. District 5 is composed of Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, and Washington counties. Ruben’s appointment was recommended by Washington County Amateur Radio Club President Justin Pauler, W5JWP, and is approved by Section Manager Mr. Stuart Wolfe KF5NIX.
Mr. Fuentes’ professional background: 38-year law enforcement career: Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Austin, TX.; Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, Austin, TX., Honorably retired (32 years) from Austin Police Department, Austin, TX. Currently a Reserve Deputy, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Brenham TX.
As a career law enforcement officer, Ruben has completed many FEMA classes.
Mr. Fuentes is an extra class license holder and has had many club memberships in his portfolio across the country. Ruben lists the past clubs: Austin ARC, Austin, TX,; Paducah ARC, Paducah KY.; Murray State University ARC, Murray, KY.; Marshall County ARES & ARC, Benton, KY.; Massac County ARC, Metropolis, IL.; Pikes Peak (PPRAA) ARC, Colorado Springs, CO. His current membership is Washington County (TX) ARC, Brenham, TX.
Ruben is an ARRL member and has held these elected officer positions: President (2018-2019)-Austin Amateur Radio Club, Austin, TX.; President (2021-2022)-Massac County Amateur Radio Club, Metropolis, IL.
Ruben has been a member of the following ARES groups: Marshall County ARES, Benton, KY, and is currently a member of Travis County ARES, Austin, TX.; Williamson County ARES, Georgetown, TX.; Lee County ARES (Assistant Emergency Coordinator), Giddings, TX.
Current Examiner Positions: W5YI Authorized National Volunteer Examiner (VE); ARRL Authorized National Volunteer Examiner (VE).
Texas Division of Emergency Management State Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) Program-County Liaison Officer (CLO) for Washington County, TX.
This appointment was effective December 14, 2025.
