I would not talk about a storm this far out except that Richard KE5MIM [Red Cross Weather Decision Support Services] says that conditions are favorable for development of Invest 94A.

It would be a good idea to keep a weather eye on the Caribbean next week.

Heat Kills

The Sun

Yesterday I was up working on our RV in the Bryan College Station area. 102 in the shade and the sweat was just pouring off me. We just cannot be complacent. And especially with our activities this weekend. Remember to take breaks, have a place to get cool, and have a backup plan in case you loose power. Remember that heat kills more folks each year than another weather event. Get an ache, take a break. Also watch your fellow operators - if they show any signs - irritable , mental slow down, etc - get them aid quickly. Shade, fluids, …

Both the Red Cross Emergency App and the Red Cross First Aid app have all you need to address Heat Exhaustion and / or Heat Stroke (a medical emergency)

  • Emergency App - Text “GETEMERGENCY” to 90999
  • First Aid App - Text “GETFIRST” to 90999

or Google Play or the App Store. https://www.redcross.org/get-help/how-to-prepare-for-emergencies/mobile-apps.html

These are phone resident, so even if you loose internet and cell service you can still have first aid resources at your fingertips.

Fire Alarm Program

You guys are definitely aware that we provide for immediate needs after home fires. You may not be aware that we also provide free education and installation of smoke alarms in communities.

Alarm install in Corpus Christi

Partners Texas Forest Service, Victoria Texas Office of Emergency Management, & Red Cross performing a Fire Alarm Install and Fire Safety visit in Victoria Texas.

These new smoke alarms have Lithium Ion Batteries that last the useful life of the smoke alarm. - So require no wiring and are an easy install. Easier than any antenna I have installed ; - )

In May alone this was 45,000 alarms across the US.

Uvalde

Very proud of the Central and South Texas Disaster Services Technology Team who provided Technical Support, Computers, Printers, and internet to Red Cross personnel, Children’s Disaster Services, and other agencies at the Uvalde response. Ripped everything out for the presidential visit, and put it all back in to provide service after. And moved facilities several times. Thank you.

Ukraine

As reported previously The American Red Cross have been providing resources to both the service to US armed forces mission, and the humanitarian crisis. These resources include both people and dollars. Some of these Red Crossers are from here in Texas.

More than 13 Million Ukrainians are displaced across Ukraine, and many in neighboring countries. Many national Red Cross Societies are engaged.
