Linda,

I’m quite remiss in a reply, excuse me. I’m wondering if my Linux-based os is compatible with the software for Winlink? I’ve been off the air since Hurricane Harvey did considerable damage to my antennas, thus I’m quite limited for some time yet. I have a laptop computer with Win 10, thus I can be active.

Any suggestions?

Gil Gibbs WA5YKK

Hi Gil,

I am not aware of anyone who uses a Linux operating system be successfully with Winlink. There’s been lots of discussions in that area. We will not be covering Linux as an option for the training.

I would strongly suggest you use your Windows 10 based system. Many more operators to help to answer questions along the way as you learn and improve your skills.

Linda, W5LDK

I never had any trouble running winlink on ubuntu ‘linux’ can’t imagine why anyone would have a problem unless they tried to run a widows version instead of one for linux, but to do that they’d need to try to run it on a Windows Compatibility App to make the wrong version work on the superior operating System …, which would be sillier than just running linux winlink on linux… andy’s ubuntu

KB1OIQ - Andy’s Ham Radio Linux

actually has it preinstalled

My final post on Other Operating Systems/Compatible Cross-Platform Winlink Apps (Didn’t want to hijack the thread) but also there’s PAT) (Don’t even ask me if the forms get updated in PAT, I never used it)

Winlink anywhere

Pat is a cross platform Winlink client written in Go.

Run it on any modern operating system, including Linux, macOS and Windows.

But Since the training is on Winlink Express on Windows … anyone on other Programs or superior operating systems will need to adapt & seek support from the support areas for those programs or superior operating systems.

Sorry for the interruption,
