STX District Map Ordered by Distance from D14

I am going to try running the Texas ARES Net this way this Monday. This is subject to propagation.

Please let me know what I need to do. Will this be on 3873.0 LSB? I’m having trouble connecting to the morning HF nets but this may be easier. 1830? Just confirming. Sorry for the bother.

Texas HF Net NCS’s in or near District 14,

In case anyone wants to try running the net by calling districts roughly in order of distance from D14, I did a quick-and-dirty map & list that could help chase the band as it recedes from us. In the span of 10 minutes, nearby stations can go from hearing us loud & clear to not hearing us at all. So, grabbing those close-in stations first and getting the distant stations when the band starts to go long might help us get more check-ins. And, it may not work at all. Who knows. The band is gonna do what it’s gonna do. But, it’ll sure keep the stations on their toes listening for their district to be called. Could garner a bit of ire in the inbox, as well.

Amateur - L. amator “lover”; we do it because we love it, not because we get paid.

The time and frequency are not changed. It will just be the order of checkins.

David,

Good luck on the new check in sequences for the ARES net. At that time of day the critical frequency is start to drop like a rock and at around 0045Z it can be as low as 2.6 MHz. Not to mention a lot of Sporadic E which is not bouncing HF signals back down to be heard here in Texas isn’t helping NCS at all.

This is why your near by station go from good/readable to not heard in just a few minutes.

Members need to remember “relay” is the best tool in our tool bags to get everyone checked into the net.

Good Luck,

Ken/W5KAM

I tried to solicit relay stations my last time as NCS.

Good luck. It would be nice being so close if I could ever listen very well for all the noise.

I respectfully ask certain individuals to please stop criticizing the net control operators for the poor band conditions we’ve been experiencing on Monday night’s Texas ARES net. If you feel that you can do a better job, than I suggest you volunteer your services for a turn in the hot seat. There is a lot of evidence available that suggests we may be entering a period of Grand Solar Minimum. If that is indeed the case, then we must be prepared to adapt to the changing conditions that could be with us for a very long time. There have been some good suggestions lately, as to how to deal with these conditions. I believe we should continue these discussions, but in a more positive, and less condescending way. As amateur radio operators we should set an example on how to cooperate and integrate different ideas into finding the best solutions to the problems we face.

FWIW I feel that all of the NCO’s are doing an admirable job in trying to keep things moving.
Many thanks from me.

Have been “listening” waiting on my proper antenna installation and have been impressed with how hard the net control operators try. I got antenna in and witH help , somebody relayed last part of my call sign, I got in for first time last time. These guys and others doing all they can to make this work. Thanks,
